I just got back from New York after a few days visiting my son, Braden. We rode the subway, grabbed food, walked for days, and attempted to see New York through his eyes, the way he lives it. I've been wanting to write a song about Jacob’s story from the Bible as part of the Hamakom Hunter bible study. This song is a blend of Jacob's story with some modern New York influence. It starts with rain on a Manhattan window and a hot coffee, then the dream of a ladder that marks The Place, the House of God. The verses move through hard years and bad deals to a night of wrestling that ends at daybreak with a limp and a new name. Life can be a tough journey and I can't imagine doing it without a relationship with Jesus Christ. And how wonderful it is, when we find The Place where there is nothing between us and Him. This song is dedicated to Braden.
