The Place at Daybreak

This duet re-imagines Jacob’s biblical journey as a present-day city struggle where a woman’s intimate vocals and a male narrates his arc from schemer to a surrendered son of God.

“The Place” (HaMakom) stands for God’s presence, first as a rooftop “ladder” (Jacob's dream as he ran from his brother, Esau), then as a midnight parking-lot fight by the river. The male verse confesses old shortcuts and a false name. The encounter demands he speak his true identity and receives a new one, echoing Jacob’s renaming to Israel. The repeated pledge to “not let go till daybreak” mirrors the all-night wrestle that ends with a blessing and a limp, while the closing images of sunrise, brotherly peace, and steady steps point to reconciliation with Esau and a life ordered by grace inside The Place.

00:00 / 03:47

There’s rain outside my window, fresh hot coffee in my hand,

Rooftop ladder in a dream, the way to a higher land.

Woke up whispering “surely You were here,” my heart’s wide awake,

You called it The Place, I called it The House of God.

The world seems different now, the sky’s turning blue

This place is special, nothing between me and you

Meet me in The Place at “daybreak,” under streetlights humming low.

I’ll trade my old ways for your ways, let my new name grow.

If it costs me how I used to be, it’s okay, write it on my soul.

I walk different, when I walk with You, back to The Place, back home.

Courthouse steps, wet stone, on the run,

Making deals, trying to climb to the Son.

risky wages, bad scales, twenty years, need a win,

Sitting on a subway car, breathe out, breathe in.

I walk over the bridge, river under my feet,

I’m a shadow in the dark, searching for the beat

But you’re still here, what is your game?

I won’t let you go, till you tell me your name.

You gave me a limp as the day got its start

You stripped off my mask and handed me your heart

Meet me in The Place at “daybreak,” under streetlights humming low.

I’ll trade my old ways for your ways, let my new name grow.

If it costs me how I used to be, it’s okay, write it on my soul.

I walk different, when I walk with You, back to The Place, back home.

I see The Place in my headlights, quiet mercy on display,

I’m counting every breath between the night and day.

If blessing leaves a footprint, let it steady my pace,

I’ll keep the limp if it keeps me in The Place.

We wrestle ‘til the sirens fade out with the stars,

You’re closer than the bruises, wider than my scars.

Write across my heart what the world can’t erase,

A new person in the mirror, sunrise on my face.

I tried reaching for the hi-line, but that’s not where I belong,

Now there’s peace in the rearview, all green, let’s go.

From The House of God to your warm embrace,

You found me where I ran, You brought me to The Place.

Hold me through the darkness,

Hold me in the light,

If it costs me everything, that’s alright.

Keep me by Your grace,

Daybreak on my heartbeat, lead me to The Place.

Ooh, daybreak on my face,

Ooh, I’m not the same.

Meet me in The Place at “daybreak,” under streetlights humming low.

I’ll trade my old ways for your ways, let my new name grow.

If it costs me how I used to be, it’s okay, write it on my soul.

I walk different, when I walk with You, back to The Place, back home.

This world fades and the river flows,

Call my name if I float away.
(I’ll be there)

Stop me there, stop my steps,
(Every day)

If I forget, remind my heart,

I’ll meet you at The Place,

Where there’s nothing between me and you.
